Sandra Bivens Grizzard

August 7, 1942 - February 20, 2026

 

Sandra Bivens Grizzard, 83, passed away February 20, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Robert Bivens Jr and Anne C. Morrow; her
son, Robert Durwood Grizzard; and her sister, Sylvia Bivens Hall.
Surviving is her husband of 59 years, E. Durwood Grizzard; daughter, E. Diane Grizzard;
sister, Mary Ben Bivens Watterson; nephew, Mark Hall; and nieces, Anne Hale, Eva West, and
Lisa Watterson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Glenyss Clarke and nephews Randy
Pittman, Jimmie Pittman, and Mike Pittman.
Mrs. Grizzard grew up in Chase City, VA and graduated from Bluestone High School. She
moved to Richmond, VA and graduated from Smithdeal-Massey Business College and John
Tyler Community College. She worked and raised a family in Chesterfield County. When she
retired, she and Durwood moved back to the family farm in Chase City, VA.
Mrs. Grizzard was active in the Chase City community and a member of the Ruritan Club,
Women's Club, and Garden Club. She was the Sunday School Director for Mt. Horeb Baptist
Church and a reading tutor for Mecklenburg County Schools.
Mrs. Grizzard enjoyed traveling. She especially loved Greece, Australia and the Caribbean. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Mount Horeb Baptist Church,10077 Old Cox Rd, Chase City. A private interment will be held Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester.
